REVEALED, an interview with Scott Indermaur! by SpiritMessages

What would you put in your box? This is the big question that you will ask yourself as you explore the REVEALED Project!

The REVEALED project was created by professional photographer, Scott Indermaur. It began with the idea of presenting his subjects with a simple wooden box, and asking them to place items inside the box that represented their spiritual experience. He then would take a portrait of each subject with their box.

On the surface it appears to be a simple idea, but with each person Scott photographed, he began to see much more than the items they put inside their box.

In Scott's own words: "What I find to be most interesting is the profound effect this project has had on so many of my subjects. Given the opportunity to look within, many experienced a journey that took them much deeper than their initial inner self-examination, which revealed undiscovered truths about themselves."

All Friends Cabaret REVEALED TV Interview

qatv.jpg

I had my first television appearance this past week! All Friends Cabaret host Krystyne Cheever recently interviewed me on QATV in Quincy, Massachusetts about the REVEALED project. It was an enjoyable experience and now it has been posted on YouTube for everyone to enjoy. It is broken down into 2 videos:

REVEALED Class - The 4th Grade Experience

2011 fly by with a tremendous amount of REVEALED news and activity. A book is now in production, art exhibits, and REVEALED additions...which happen to only be REVEALED Class subjects. This is a branch of REVEALED  that I am very excited to see grow. In 2011 I photographed a class of 5th graders in the Spring and then a class of 4th graders in the Fall. The project begins by me visiting the class and meeting these eager students that are excited about a new art project... And maybe even having a guest artist. :)  I return to the class two weeks later to photograph the children with their self designed REVEALED boxes that they get to keep.

I just posted the latest addition of 30 fourth graders and two of their teachers. More about the process and experience is available here.

You can also read what SouthCoast Today wrote about this latest addition of fourth graders.

Revealed Subject's Insight Into The Process

Nicole Purcell recently wrote a blog on dlife about her experience as a This I Believe REVEALED subject.  Her entry may be found here in their blogabetes section.  She writes about her thought process on what to put in her REVEALED box and as she says, "how diabetes has informed my "spiritual experience"."

"I was also surprised at how I felt during the session.    I was thinking through the challenges of balance, and wondering if, in the case of managing diabetes and weighing it against one’s spiritual existence, a perfect balance isn’t exactly perfect.  I struggled." Nicole Purcell wrote.

I always enjoy hearing about how a subject connects with themselves, REVEALED and even myself.  Their experience with REVEALED is different than mine and both of our experiences can be very powerful with a strong connection as we are collaborating together to "reveal" themselves.  I learn so much about myself from these connections.  Reading her essay brought tears to my eyes.  I am very grateful to hear about these experiences and also being part of them.

Visit her blog entry about the experience and enjoy.
